The Paradigm Shift We Desperately Need: The Living Nature Education Initiative

Discovering a New Path in Education

With over a decade of experience in the education field, both in the UK and internationally, I have witnessed profound changes affecting students, teachers, and stakeholders. The global pandemic felt like a beacon for much-needed change in our approach to education, yet, regrettably, it wasn’t the revolution we hoped for.

Josie’s journey and passion for Education

Starting my career as a passionate young teacher at 22, my goal was always to create a welcoming, fun, and engaging classroom. The long hours, the relentless pressure, and the ever-growing responsibilities became my norm. Climbing the ladder to middle management only intensified these challenges, leaving me a shadow of the creative and ambitious teacher I once was.

I fought hard to maintain my integrity and spark, but the constant pressure to meet targets and the looming OFSTED inspections made it increasingly difficult. The curriculum became a constraint, and my professional opinion was often compromised. The classroom environment became more demanding—students struggling to concentrate, technology overtaking traditional learning, and an alarming increase in behavioural issues.

A Global Perspective and the Call for Change

Teaching abroad, I discovered that the issues plaguing UK schools were not isolated; international schools faced similar challenges. The pandemic and the shift to online learning further highlighted the struggles of our education system. Students and teachers alike found it difficult to transition back to in-person learning. Despite the obvious need for a more supportive and holistic approach, the primary focus remained on academic performance.

Our education system is failing us. It’s failing our teachers, our children, and ultimately, our society. We teach about diversity and individuality, yet we force students into a one-size-fits-all mould, driving them to anxiety, technological addiction, and a lack of meaningful connections.
